Aluminum shaft anode – Effective protection for your propeller shaft

Aluminum anodes offer superior protection compared to traditional zinc anodes. The special alloy has a greater negative charge and longer life, making the anode more active for a longer period of time. In total, an aluminum anode produces approximately 70% more amp-hours over its lifetime than an equivalent zinc anode.

Important: Never mix aluminum and zinc anodes on the same boat/drive. If they are physically connected, the aluminum anode will consume itself to protect the zinc anode. Therefore, use the same metal consistently on all anodes.

Many leading manufacturers such as Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar and Princess today use aluminum anodes as standard.
