Frequently asked questions about onboard electrics

Which battery suits my boat?

It depends on your consumption and how long you want to be self-sufficient. As a rule of thumb, battery capacity should be at least twice your daily consumption in amp-hours.

Can I charge the battery with a solar panel?

Yes – a solar panel with the right regulator charges the battery efficiently and silently. Remember to choose a regulator that matches the solar panel's output and your battery type.

What is the difference between shore power and the 12V system?

The 12V system is powered by the boat's batteries and is used for navigation, lighting and pumps. Shore power (230V) is connected in harbour and provides access to mains electricity as well as the ability to charge the batteries.
