Batteries & battery boxes
The right battery is the foundation of every onboard electrical system. Choose capacity and type based on your consumption and how long you want to be self-sufficient. 👉 Battery box (~115 Ah)
Battery chargers
A good charger extends battery life and keeps it in top condition. Choose a charger suited to your battery type and capacity. 👉 CTEK battery charger CT5 · Exide battery charger
Solar panels & regulators
Solar panels provide free and silent energy – perfect for keeping batteries charged during longer stays in harbour or at anchor. 👉 Victron solar panel accessories · Solar panel regulator 4-step G2 PWM
Shore power
Shore power gives access to 230V in harbour and the ability to charge batteries and run comfort equipment without draining the onboard system. 👉 CEE male connector for cable mounting · Shore power distribution box
Lighting
LED lighting provides good light with low power consumption – important on board where every amp-hour counts. 👉 Båtsystem U-pro LED 480mm with switch · LED lighting Casolux Mille courtesy
Switches, fuses & electrical panels
A well-organised electrical panel with the right fuses protects your equipment and makes troubleshooting easy. Choose splash-proof options designed for the marine environment. 👉 KFix automatic fuse · BEP splash-proof electrical panel with 6 contacts, 12/24V
Frequently asked questions about onboard electrics
Which battery suits my boat?
It depends on your consumption and how long you want to be self-sufficient. As a rule of thumb, battery capacity should be at least twice your daily consumption in amp-hours.
Can I charge the battery with a solar panel?
Yes – a solar panel with the right regulator charges the battery efficiently and silently. Remember to choose a regulator that matches the solar panel's output and your battery type.
What is the difference between shore power and the 12V system?
The 12V system is powered by the boat's batteries and is used for navigation, lighting and pumps. Shore power (230V) is connected in harbour and provides access to mains electricity as well as the ability to charge the batteries.
